Iowa weather: Chances for strong storms, high winds in Des Moines metro

EVENING AND AND YOUR FURRY BESTIE FLYNN. HE’S GOT A THICK COAT OF HAIR. HE’S GOT TO BE HOT THIS TIME OF YEAR. YEAH, I JUST FEEL BAD FOR ALL THE PUPS BECAUSE IT’S JUST MISERABLE. IT’S MISERABLE FOR HUMANS AND FOR DOGS ALIKE AND CATS AND YOU KNOW, EVEN IF YOU DO GET UP EARLY TO WALK YOUR DOG OR STAY UP LATE TO WALK AFTER SUNSET, IT’S STILL PRETTY HUMID OUT THERE. AND THAT’S WHAT WE’VE BEEN DEALING WITH FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF DAYS. WE’RE ALL QUIET, AT LEAST FOR THE TIME BEING. HERE ON SUPER DOPPLER EIGHT, MOST OF OUR ACTIVITY IN THE SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF MINNESOTA, WE’RE GOING TO BE WATCHING FOR STORM DEVELOPMENT HERE AS WE HEAD INTO THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS TODAY. BUT FOR RIGHT NOW, WE’VE GOT A MAINLY SUNNY SKY. TEMPERATURES ARE HOT AND MUGGY DEW POINTS IN THE MID 70S FEELS LIKE 99 HERE IN DES MOINES. WE’VE GOT AIR TEMPERATURES ALMOST AT 90 AS WE GO INTO THE AFTERNOON. AS THESE STORMS DO DEVELOP HERE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF YOUR MONDAY, DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE THE BIGGEST CONCERN HERE, ALONG WITH SOME HAIL. BUT ALSO A LOW RISK FOR A TORNADO OR TWO HERE. AS WE HEAD INTO THE AFTERNOON, SOME HEAVY RAIN ALSO A POSSIBILITY. SOME LOCALIZED, UM, JUST LOCALIZED FLOODING UNDER SOME OF THOSE HEFTIER STORMS IS ALSO POSSIBLE AS WE GET THOSE STORMS DEVELOPING TOWARDS THE SECOND HALF OF THE DAY. TODAY, NOT ALL MODELS ARE SAYING THE SAME THING. SO THERE’S THE POTENTIAL THAT MAYBE SOME OF THESE STORMS DON’T DEVELOP ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA. OR MAYBE THEY STAY WELL TO OUR EAST AND WE GET WE GET THE AFTERNOON FREE OF ANY STORMS THAT IS STILL A POSSIBILITY. SO WE’LL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT DEVELOPS HERE. THIS AFTERNOON. THAT MODEL BRINGS THINGS THROUGH AS WE GO TOWARDS THE SECOND HALF OF THE DAY TODAY, AND INTO THE REST OF THE DAY, OR I SHOULD SAY, THE REST OF THE EVENING HOURS TONIGHT. SO AS THOSE STORMS START TO DEVELOP ALONG A FRONT TO OUR NORTH THAT POTENTIALLY BRINGS IN SOME ACTIVITY CLOSER TOWARDS DINNERTIME TONIGHT AND THEN IT’S OUT OF HERE AS WE GO INTO THE REST OF YOUR MONDAY EVENING. SO TOMORROW LOOKS A LOT CALMER AND I THINK WILL BE MOSTLY SUNNY HERE AS WE GO INTO THE DAY TOMORROW. OUR TEMPERATURES DROP OFF QUITE A BIT HERE ON TUESDAY, AND BEYOND. SO IT’S REALLY TODAY THAT WE HAVE THE MESS OF THE HEAT, BUT ALSO THE POTENTIAL FOR THOSE STRONGER STORMS TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW FOR OUR FRIENDS DOWN TO OUR SOUTH AND WEST, A LITTLE BIT HOTTER, BUT CLOSE TO 90 HERE IN DES MOINES. AGAIN, WE’VE GOT THE HUMIDITY, WE’VE GOT THE MOISTURE IN PLACE HERE TO FUEL THOSE STORMS. IF THEY WERE TO DEVELOP HERE DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS, DEW POINTS, UPPER 70S. FOR SOME OF US, THAT’S THE OPPRESSIVE LIKE TROPICAL FEEL OUTSIDE. AND THAT LINGERS FOR MUCH OF THE AFTERNOON TODAY. BUT WE DO GET RELIEF TOMORROW. SO WE’LL BE WEATHER ALERT HERE AS WE GO THROUGH THE REST OF THE DAY. TODAY FOR THE STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS, TEMPERATURES TOPPING OUT LOW TO MID 90S THIS AFTERNOON AND THEN EVENTUALLY AS THAT FRONT COMES THROUGH, THAT WILL COOL US OFF HERE TOMORROW. AGAIN, HEAT INDICES BACK UP INTO THE LOWER TRIPLE DIGITS. STILL FEELING LIKE THE POTENTIAL OF 104, 105, 106 DEGREES HERE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. THAT FRONT COMES THROUGH, DROPS BACK, OUR TEMPERATURES AND THE HEAT INDEX GOES DOWN OVERNIGHT TONIGHT INTO THE DAY TOMORROW. AND TEMPERATURES WILL FEEL A LOT MORE COMFORTABLE HERE AS WE GET INTO THE DAY ON TUESDAY. SO TONIGHT BACK INTO THE LOW TO MID 90S HERE FOR CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE. STORMS FIRING UP LATER ON THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE DINNER HOUR AND INTO THE EARLY EVENING. THEN LATER ON TONIGHT I THINK MOST OF THE RAIN IS OUT OF HERE. WE SHOULD BE BACK INTO THE 60S AND CLOSE TO 70 HERE IN THE CITY TOMORROW. A LOT MORE COMFORTABLE TEMPERATURES ACTUALLY BELOW AVERAGE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. LOW TO MID 80S ON THE MAP HERE FOR YOUR TUESDAY 81 ON WEDNESDAY. IT’S POSSIBLE WE DON’T EVEN MAKE IT OUT OF THE 70S ON THURSDAY. THAT WILL FEEL PRETTY COMFORTABLE. HUMIDITY COMES DOWN AS THAT FRONT COMES THROUGH TODAY AN
